QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include:
- A minimum of an Associate Degree, from an accredited institution preferably in a field related to Education, Human Relations, Career and Technical Education, or other relevant academic disciplines.
- A minimum of two (2) years of successful work experience in implementing strategies to enhance student and/or workplace success;
- Proven positive attitude, follow-up, and organizational capabilities;
- Ability to pay close attention to detail as well as the possession of good judgment and a strong work ethic;
- Computer proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Google Classroom, Microsoft Office and the Internet;
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with high school students, parents, and other stakeholders from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds;
- Serve as a role model for students by maintaining a positive attitude and cultivating relationships;
- Maintain accurate records;
- Provide timely and open communications with teachers/ administrators regarding student progress, issues and concerns;
- Maintain an awareness of current College and Clark policies and guidelines;
- Handle minor problems and referring all others to the appropriate staff;
- Remain sensitive to subtle mood changes and erratic behavior that may be exhibited by students;
- Monitor students during classes;
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to creatively problem-solve and collaborate to address student issues and barriers to success;
- Strong relationship-building attributes such as empathy, concern and commitment to student success;
- Ability to communicate effectively and work independently, multi-task, and be self-motivated;
- Complete other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director or designee.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Working collaboratively with various Clark employees relative to students’ academic and social emotional needs;
- Tracking and documenting student participation, progress, behavior, attendance, and engagement;
- Maintaining a safe and effective classroom environment;
- Participating in department, division, and general faculty/staff meetings;
- Participating in professional development as appropriate to the position;
- Teaching reading, English, social studies, science, math, and computer skills.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Monitor and facilitate a positive and productive classroom environment;
- Work collaboratively with Clark staff to support students in the classroom;
- Assess and address student needs through effective, supportive, and respectful communication;
- Provide guidance, intervention, and direction necessary to keep students progressing through to completion of requirements in each class;
- Maintain accurate records and document student progression activities;
- Demonstrate expertise in the use of technology to assist in classroom instruction;
- Provide necessary information and assistance based on interactions with students, including but not limited to:
- Assisting current students with issues relative to completion of coursework.
- Developing strategies to ensure that educational programs, student services, academic support services, and other support mechanisms are responsive to students’ needs;
- Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned. The work hours for this position will vary between Monday- Friday; 7:30-2:30.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires an ability to lift medium-sized boxes of printed materials, sit for long periods of time, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally more than twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as copiers, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment, as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
