Digital Arts Teacher
(Film, Photography, and Broadcast Media)

Position Summary:
Westmark School is currently seeking an Upper School Digital Arts Teacher to start work on August 14, 2023 who is passionate about teaching film, photography, and broadcast media to high school students. Our ideal candidate will possess a knowledge base and passion for teaching students, preferably with language-based and attentional learning differences, and be able to organize and implement an instructional program that will capitalize on student strengths and be in accordance with Westmark School’s mission.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Teach five sections of digital arts to Upper School students.
- Oversee the development of the digital arts program for in alignment with the departmental and school goals.
- Plan and implement digital arts curriculum.
- Coordinate curricula with other department and grade level teachers.
- Be a consummate professional that strives to bring the highest quality digital arts direction and instruction for Westmark families.
- Participation in and attendance at all arts-based events including the Arts Showcase.
- Works directly with the Director of Strategic Marketing & Communications and the Director of Development to evaluate, conceptualize, and deliver required digital arts materials.
- Provide video and photographic coverage of on-campus, in-classroom, after- school athletics events and games, performing arts events, and other special project activities.
- Submit weekly lesson plans to the Fine Arts Department Chair and the Curriculum Coordinator.
- Integrate technology into the curriculum following best practices.
- Maintain class page through the school’s learning management system(LMS) to meet the requirements of Westmark School.
- Weekly update and post to LMS class grade book.
- Communicate with parents, department chair, advisors, and Division Director regarding students’ behaviors, academic concerns, and academic progress.
- Use behavior management systems that are effective with students with language-based learning differences.
- Provide a positive environment that encourages students to actively participate in their own learning.
- Ensure that all curriculum and instruction are examined through the lens of Westmark’s strong commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
- Actively participate in all ongoing professional development.
- Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the community.
- Additional responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A minimum requirement of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a preference of a Special Education Credential or Master’s Degree in Education
- Credential, graduate degree, or extensive experience in the field of Special Education and/or Learning Differences.
- Minimum of 3 years’ classroom teaching experience, preferably in teaching to high school students film or photography.
- A strong desire to be part of a collaborative team.
- Knowledge of multi-sensory teaching methodologies.
- Experience with technology, specifically iPads, Macs, PCs, and SMART Technologies.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
- Strong organization and time-management skills
- Desire to continue to develop professionally by learning new programs and methodologies.
