About the role
As a QA Microbiologist, you will perform technical work in a microbiology laboratory; orders, issues, prepares, and maintains laboratory materials, supplies, and associated equipment; performs related duties as required. Prepare samples for analytical and microbiological testing of flavor products, ingredients, and environmental. The role is responsible for the application of approved microbiological techniques and methodologies used in analytical testing.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain microbial laboratory condition, to include equipment, supplies, quality assurance programs, and accurate records throughout all procedures.
- Provide technical support to the hygiene and sanitation Lead in deploying Kerry Sanitation Standards at manufacturing site in liaison with the Regional Sanitation Team.
- Create relationships with cross-functional team integrate robust hygiene practices into plant operations.
- Prepare samples for indicator organisms, non-pathogens, and chemistries.
- Apply aseptic techniques in daily workload.
- Maintain media and reagents as needed for daily microbiological testing.
- Inventory and report expendable supplies/materials needed for testing requirements.
- Assess site for compliance to corporate hygienic design, food safety and HSE standards.
- Independently pursue an assigned series of processes, procedures, or techniques in accordance with Kerry standard, FSSC 22000 and customer requirements.
- Perform all activities in a neat, safe, hygienic, and efficient manner.
- Share information in an open, and timely manner.
- Assisting with managing priorities and schedule such that individual goals as well as team goals are achieved with encouraged participation in the Food Safety Team.
- Responsible for the safety of oneself and others working within their area.
- Responsible for the completion of required training.
Qualifications and skills
- Diploma or university graduate in Chemistry, Food Technology, or a related field. A BS degree in Life Science or a related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3-4 years of experience in the dairy, flavors, or nutritional industries is essential.
- Broad knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in a food/flavor testing laboratory.
- Proficient in computer skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines, self-manage, and handle multitasking with speed and accuracy, both independently and as part of a team.
Key competencies
Essential:
- Proficient in conducting microbiological laboratory procedures and has relevant experience in this field.
- Experienced in implementing and managing effective sanitation programs.
- In-depth knowledge of food safety regulations and compliance, ensuring adherence to industry standards
- Familiarity with FSMS, BRC, SQMS, and AIB standards, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of quality management systems.
- Extensive auditing experience, ensuring adherence to regulatory and internal requirements.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, facilitating effective collaboration and information exchange
Preferred:
- Exposure to Flavours or similar industries an advantage.
- Experience working with SAP or similar systems.
- Accredited ISO 17025 training will give an advantage.
