Mine Operative
At British Gypsum we are looking for a Mine Operative to work in our small, focused, multi-disciplinary production team.Your role will be critical in ensuring production targets are met, meaning an overall positive experience for our customers.
This role will potentially operate a Monday – Friday, 3-shift staggered pattern, which includes days, afternoons, and nights
The Mine Operative will be a part of a safety focused, highly skilled in one of our 4 production teams based out of Marblaegis Mine, East Leake, Leicestershire. The Mine Operative will be in a team of 3 working with a wider team of 7. The Mine Operative will be an integral member of the Mine Production team & operate front line production machinery and will be tasked with undertaking duties and responsibilities in a safe and economic manner in compliance with mining legislation, company policy and Managers Rules. Gypsum is the vital raw material at the heart of our plaster and plasterboard, and much of it is mined, milled, and made in Britain. In fact, as custodians of British gypsum reserves, we’ve been mining it for more than 150 years.
What we’re looking for:
· Experience in an underground mining environment or similar would be advantageous, otherwise proven competency as an operator of material handling/ heavy plant and equipment would be essential
· Particular mechanical bias would be advantageous and previous involvement in machinery maintenance preferably through a programme of continuous improvement.
· Experience of Drill/Blast or mechanized mining as appropriate
· Good interpersonal skills in order to interact well with your production colleagues, engineering personnel and site management.
· Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
· Good attention to detail
What you will be doing:
· Mine Planning/Engineering/Production
· Perform autonomous routine maintenance for mobile and fix equipment both underground and at surface (greasing, conveyor belt cleaning/rollers change
· Cut or muck out Headings to achieve the required rock quality
· Use basic SPC tools to monitor quality performance & make corrective actions as required
· Operate underground machinery - rock cutting and loading machines and rock haulers/ scoops
· Importing and exporting of rock to Mine for Surface Storage/Plant Use and for Customer dispatch ensuring they are to Mine/site specification
