The Alberta Health Services facility in Vegreville is the Vegreville Care Centre, a seniors housing facility which allows for 60 Long Term Care residents. The newly designed facility has Cottages built within, allowing for a more home like atmosphere for both patients and their families. Reporting to the Care Manager, the Health Care Aide provides patient care services as a member of a health care team, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. The Health Care Aide participates in the delivery of quality patient care by assisting with basic personal care and hygiene, lifting and transferring of patients, patient nutrition and feeding patients as necessary, changing linens, gathering equipment, restocking supplies, and portering patients and supplies as necessary.

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.
Additional Required Qualifications:Must hold current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification and be able to provide proof of such certification. In addition, the incumbent will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Actively integrates Patient and Family Centered Care principles into practice. Excellent communication skills in order to work collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary team and accept direction as required. Demonstrates critical thinking, conflict resolution and problem solving skills. Excellent time management and prioritization skills. Compliance with the AHS Hand Hygiene policies. Demonstrates behaviours consistent with the values of AHS - compassion, accountability, respect, excellence, and safety.
Preferred Qualifications:Minimum 1 year of Health Care Aide experience in the past 5 years preferred.
